Arc Minutes

April 13, 2009

Present at the meeting:  Lynda Smith, Christine Townsend, Beth Townsend, Terri Cutter, Dale Crites, Del Moeller, John Bokelman, Karen Lewis, Missy Dykes, Candy Reese, Jennie Roberts, Lacey Rudd, Carey Crites, Sharon Crites, Kathy Minor, Brian Bokelman,  Ann Smith, Teresa Hooten, Mel Fields, Paul Pank

 

The meeting was called to order by Lynda Smith.

 

Kim Gauk reported on the Transition Fair that was held at the Greensburg Community Learning Center on Tuesday, March 24.  80 students ages 13 and up attended.  Mrs. Gauk said that the event was very successful, and she thanked the Arc for our support.  Planning is underway for next year’s fair.  Teachers present who had worked on the event were Jacqui Pratt, Alida Winkler, Krista Bartosz, Jenna Lindsey and Kim Gauck.

 

The minutes from the March 9 meeting  were approved as presented.

 

Paul Pank presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

County Coordinator Teresa Hooten gave her report which included the following:

-          A  listing of camps for people with disabilities in Indiana; contact her if interested

-          Disability legislative agenda in Congress

-          The State Arc video “We’re Here to Help, Inspiring Videos to Guide Families & Self-Advocates.”

Teresa also presented information regarding liability insurance.  We will continue to research this.

 

Terri Cutter presented the County report.  Some new work has come into the workshop.  She reported that Cheryl Harford is leaving DSI; Ashley Cooke will now be in charge of the Personal Enhancement Program.  Ticket sales are going well for the Mark Schultz concert on April 24. 

 

Mel  Fields gave a brief update on the suspension of the OASIS roll out.

 

Old Business:

-          Del  Moeller reported that we can get a brand new 32” television for the workshop for $520.  Paul Pank moved that we purchase the television.  John Bokelman seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

-          The website was discussed.  We will continue to work on keeping the website up to date.

-          Christine Townsend reported on the Magic Show & Pizza Party that was held on April 3 which was a success.

-          Dale Crites reported that he, Del Moeller and Lynda Smith attended the County Commissioners’ meeting on March 16 to report on the Arc’s activities and invite the commissioners to visit the workshop. 

-          A local self-advocacy  group  has been formed.  Meetings will be on the third Monday of the month at 12:30 p.m. at the workshop.  Officers are:  Andy Meneely, president; Jessica Johanigman, vice-president; Marguerite Dudgeon, treasurer and Tommy Adkins, Sargeant-at-Arms. 

New Business

-          Client social events were discussed. The June Hayride will be on Saturday,  June 13, with John and Alice Bokelman in charge.  The Movie Night party will be scheduled at a later date.
